Smart-Pad is Reinventy's brake-friction material platform — engineered for passenger and light-commercial vehicle applications across OEM and aftermarket channels. The material is built on the proprietary XHT ultra-high-temperature ceramic matrix composite family — the same material foundation that anchors Reinventy's aerospace-grade thermal-protection technologies, now configured for the operating envelope of automotive brake-friction. THE THESIS

The friction material is the brake.

Brake-friction performance is decided at the material. Stopping power under variable conditions, thermal stability through repeated heavy braking, wear behaviour over the vehicle service life, and the noise/vibration/harshness profile during daily driving are all functions of the friction material formulation. Commodity brake-friction materials sit on a Pareto frontier where improving one characteristic compromises another — increase pad bite for stopping power and you sacrifice wear life; reduce dust for cleaner wheels and you lose fade resistance.

Smart-Pad is engineered to move the frontier. The friction material is built on the proprietary XHT ceramic matrix composite material family — a material platform engineered originally for extreme-thermal aerospace envelopes, now configured for the operating conditions of automotive brake-friction. Material formulation control at the laboratory level, combined with proprietary manufacturing routes, supports performance trade-offs that the commodity Pareto frontier does not characteristically reach. The four performance characteristics — Stopping Power, Fade Resistance, Wear Life, NVH Comfort — are addressed by design within the material system rather than by retrofitting commodity friction formulations.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS

Smart-Pad is engineered around four performance characteristic axes, each addressing a specific dimension of brake-friction quality that the automotive market evaluates:

  • STOPPING POWER

    Consistent brake response across operating conditions. The friction material delivers predictable braking performance whether the pad is cold, fully warmed, or after sustained heavy-braking cycles. The driver experiences uniform pedal feel.

  • FADE RESISTANCE

    Performance retention under thermal load. Repeated heavy braking — descending mountain passes, towed-load braking, spirited driving — does not produce the progressive performance degradation characteristic of commodity friction materials. The thermal envelope of the XHT material family supports stable behaviour where commodity organic and semi-metallic formulations transition into fade regime.

  • WEAR LIFE

    Extended service life through optimized wear behaviour. The friction material is engineered to deliver service intervals beyond the commodity envelope, reducing replacement frequency and lifetime cost-per-mile for the vehicle owner.

  • NVH COMFORT

    Low noise / vibration / harshness profile during daily driving. Brake-friction-induced squeal, judder, and vibration are engineered out of the material at formulation rather than masked through dampening shims. The driver experiences the quiet, refined brake feel expected of premium passenger vehicles.

MATERIAL FOUNDATION

Built on the XHT material platform.

Smart-Pad is built on Reinventy's proprietary XHT ultra-high-temperature ceramic matrix composite material family — the same material platform that anchors Reinventy's aerospace- grade thermal-protection technologies. The XHT material's refractory ceramic skeleton, polymer-derived matrix, and embedded conductive networks support a thermal and mechanical performance envelope that brake-friction applications can leverage where the operating conditions reach beyond what commodity organic and semi-metallic friction materials sustain. Smart-Pad configures the XHT material family for the specific operating envelope of automotive brake-friction: temperature cycling between cold-start and heavy-duty heat regimes, mechanical abrasion patterns from rotor interaction, and the NVH characteristics that automotive market acceptance requires.

  • RARE-EARTH REDUCTION

    Material formulation engineered to reduce dependency on rare-earth-heavy commodity supply chains characteristic of conventional high-performance brake-friction. Smart- Pad sits within Reinventy's broader material-platform approach — alongside SMC-Core soft magnetic composites — to enabling industrial-scale technologies without exposure to rare-earth supply concentration.

  • BRAKE-DUST PROFILE

    Brake-dust emission characteristics calibrated to incoming particulate-matter regulatory frameworks affecting passenger vehicle operation. The friction material is engineered to manage particulate emission as a design priority rather than as a post-hoc mitigation, positioning Smart-Pad for the operational compliance horizon facing OEMs in major regulatory jurisdictions.

  • LIGHT COMMERCIAL

    Van, light-commercial truck, delivery-class vehicle applications. Engineered for the higher duty cycle and weight envelope of commercial use while preserving the NVH and wear characteristics valued by the operator.

  • HIGH PERFORMANCE

    Spirited driving and high-performance street applications. Engineered for the elevated thermal load and brake-feel responsiveness expected in performance-oriented passenger vehicles. Secondary positioning within the V1 Smart-Pad scope.

Smart-Pad is engineered for compliance with the applicable regional brake-friction regulatory frameworks governing the specific market, vehicle class, and OEM qualification pathway. The material and manufacturing process are configured to support certification under the framework applicable to each transaction — the certification pathway is released under partnership between Reinventy and the integrating OEM or aftermarket distributor.
