SCUTUM
One shield for mixed radiation fields.
A clean-sheet Reinventy programme for a lightweight, lead-free, functionally graded-Z radiation shield that manages photons, secondary radiation and neutrons in one architecture.
EARLY-STAGE R&D · GRADED-STACK ATTENUATION COUPONS ARE THE NEXT GATE
Concept visualization · not a tested SCUTUM shield · no measured attenuation implied
01 · The leap
From one dense barrier to a governed gradient.
No single material efficiently manages every radiation interaction. SCUTUM explores one functionally graded architecture: an outer photon-attenuating layer, a decreasing-Z cascade intended to manage secondary radiation, and an inner hydrogen-rich, neutron-capture layer. The function comes from the sequence, not from one chemistry alone.
02 · One stack, three ambitions
Stop the primary. Manage the secondary. Capture the neutron.
SCUTUM's novelty path is a governed material gradient tuned to several interaction mechanisms without relying on lead.
Attenuate
Use a lead-free high-Z outer region to address photon interactions in a lightweight composite form.
Cascade
Decrease atomic number through the stack so secondary emissions encounter successive absorption regions.
Moderate
Finish with a hydrogen-rich, capture-capable inner region for neutron and mixed-field pathways.
03 · Born inside Alchemi
Radiation physics defines the interactions. Alchemi governs the sequence that must manage them.
Reinventy combines nanocomposites, structural panels, transport simulation and evidence governance. Alchemi explores graded candidates and trade spaces, but physical attenuation curves and declared source geometries remain the only basis for advancing a claim.
04 · Civil pathways first
Lead-free shielding has immediate civil value.
Medical, industrial and nuclear environments offer bounded routes to compare attenuation, secondary radiation and mass under declared methods.
Medical shielding
Lead-free panel research for radiology and radiotherapy environments.
Industrial inspection
Architected shielding around non-destructive testing and radiography workflows.
Nuclear facilities
Mixed-field shielding research for high-radiation industrial environments.
Space electronics
Lightweight graded enclosures for radiation-effects research on electronics.
05 · Evidence path
Every layer must earn its place on a measured curve.
SCUTUM advances only when traceable single-material coupons and graded stacks are compared under declared radiation fields, geometries and dosimetry.
Programme definition
Radiation fields, mass boundary, public claims and evidence methods are declared.
Material coupons
Measure photon and neutron response of the constituent lead-free regions.
Next gateGraded stack
Compare secondary-radiation behaviour and total attenuation against declared baselines.
Demonstrator
Transfer the validated stack to a bounded medical, industrial or space-electronics enclosure.
Build the evidence
A partner for the first physical SCUTUM campaign.
Reinventy is interested in accredited radiation laboratories, medical and industrial shielding partners, nuclear research facilities and space-radiation specialists.
